Night at the Museum, minus Ben Stiller
We did it! A night at MOV with Conor Holler was a huge success! And it our very first one! I must admit, the whole thing didn’t feel like work because it was so much fun. I didn’t feel stressed or nothing. Everything seemed to just flow. So here are some behind the scene shots of that very special night, and some taken by side stage…

Anyhow, the night was recorded. Not sure where it will be screened but I’ll be sure to keep you posted. Better yet, why not make it to the next one? The museum is a fun place to party…

Show Time!
I was a witness at my first wedding. Lizzie and Chris, two of my closest friends here in Vancouver, had a signing of the legally binding documents beach party on Monday. Very last minute. It was perfect. I much prefer this kind of thing to anything fancy, though I’ve been to some really lovely fancy weddings. I guess ’cause my parents didn’t have a great wedding experience (long story I’ll probably retell one day) I was raised to think that kind of thing isn’t worth it. But to some it is. Each, own etc. Anyhow, I wrote about the experience here.

I sure hope so. It’s gonna be fun. The closest thing we have to Letterman in this city. Or Carson Daly. Whatever works for you.
So, I have two dogs desperately vying for my attention right now. Dutchie, obviously, and Grampa. You might know him from Stop Podcasting Yourself or that picture of him dressed up as Zardog on the internets. Anyhow, he’s awesome. I was determined to not let him sleep in my bed last night, ’cause my allergies are acting up (eczema eyes) but he whimpered and whined until I finally let him. What a wuss. Here’s a photo of Geeps and Dutch FINALLY falling in love…
It took a bit of coaxing but it worked out in the end.
So I’m stoked. Got $200 worth of stuff for less than $100 at a store I enjoy but won’t share which one ’cause I don’t want the person who helped me out to get in trouble. Anyhow, I’m going to try on all my new stuff. Hope to see you tomorrow!

Holy smoly do I have good news for you. A little while ago, while I was co-organizing the most recent installment of Rain City Chronicles, I contacted Bob Kronbauer to be one of our speakers. He’s one of those guys who’s everywhere, with his hand in everything, all of which is inspiring and awesome. I totally admired his accomplishments and what he did in the community. After Rain City, we became friends and he showed an interest in my podcast. He asked me if I’d like to put it out through his website, Vancouver Is Awesome, and I didn’t really have to think about it.
So yeah, the People’s Program Project is now a part of Vancouver is Awesome. What that means is he’ll be setting up a link from his website with a write up by me about each episode. That write up will be different than the one I put up here. It also means, I’ll basically get a larger audience. Really, there was no reason for me not to pair with such a great website. I really believe in what Bob’s doing and I’m so honoured to be a part of it. I’ll also be involved in a bunch of VIA’s other projects, including this one, which is bound to be very good. So go.
So in this episode, I interview Bob about what it’s like to be someone who’s held down so many cool titles and how he got where he is today.
I also interview my dad, Avi Lev. I did this interview last year when I was in Toronto, dealing with some heavy shit. I was writing for Vice at the time and my dad didn’t quite get it. He’s considered to be one of the best editors in this country – Gemini award winning with an impressive resume (The Journal, The National, The Fifth Estate.) When I lucked into a journalism job, he was pretty proud of me. But when I decided to choose a different path, he didn’t quite understand why. So we had a chat about that. If I sound nervous, it’s because I am. I don’t think I respect anyone as much as I respect my dad. He’s really hard to impress too.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from my dad, it’s how to be an artist. That is what I am at my core and that is what he is at his core. It’s too bad he doesn’t let his artistic side shine more often.

In other news, you should read this. Particularly if you’re a journalist. It’s not even funny how dead on it is.
What else? Oh, Rape Whistle Fan Club just finished editing our first video. I just watched the final cut. And then I watched it 10 more times. Holy shit, I am so impressed (with myself. And everyone involved.) It turned out 100% better than I could have imagined. I can’t wait to post it. It’s going to premier at Music Waste so get ready.
Oh, to follow up on my week away in solitary confinement…didn’t write my book. Instead, I wrote this, which I’m actually pretty pleased about. I think I learned that if it’s not in you, you can’t push it. I think that’s a valuable lesson, don’t you?

Hi Ho Hi Ho
It’s off to work I go. Just getting ready to go into solitary confinement. Nervous. Excited. I really can’t wait to see what happens.
Here’s a list of words or phrases people Google and end up at my site: Midget Camel Toe, Scat Fan Club, Rape Fan Club, Whistle With A Fan In It. Amongst others.
So, the travel thingy I’ve been writing for is up. I’ll be providing most of the Vancouver content. It’s a really fun job and I get to work with one of my favourite editors again (formerly of Vice.) Yah! Seriously. She knows exactly how to push me. It’s really really satisfying. My voice is quite different for this gig…a bit more mature and a lot less cynical, but I love the challenge and I’m really grateful for this gig.
What else? Oh, I did the Proof for Vancouver is Awesome. Take a creep inside my world…
Oh yeah, I took part in this study at UBC. It was about yoga and well being. There was a part where they put me in a so-called stressful situation and tested my stress levels. I can’t talk about what the stressful situation was, because I don’t want to sway the study, but it was doing a task that I’m generally not good at, in a short amount of time. I remember thinking, oh fuck, all I can do is my best but I’m not going to get too worked up about it. And in turn, I failed miserably at the task. The lady conducting the study said my stress levels were completely unchanged throughout the whole two hour study, which is apparently unheard of. So I started to think maybe my new life outlook should be: oh fuck, all I can do is my best but I’m not going to get too worked up about it. In this case I was doing my best at a task I cared very little about…but what if I applied that to the rest of my life? I guess we’ll see what happens. Hopefully good stuff.

I feel like this will help me get a fresh start with my writing. Here’s hoping.
