Episode 27 – Chatting with Nardwuar/The End

Click here to listen to the 27th and final episode of the People’s Program Project. Click here to read I’m a Good Story.

So after nearly three years, I’m putting this project to an end. And who better to bury this shit with than with one of the world’s greatest gonzo journalists, Nardwuar the Human Serviette!

It’s not so much an interview as it is a chat. (Well, a chat n’ chew, ’cause we were eating lunch the whole time. At the Tomahawk Grill. A popular place in Nardworld.) Nardwuar really shaped my style and tone as a journalist…I aspire to be as entertaining and informative as he is. His work is certainly memorable.

That said, I got into some deeper shit with the Vancouver icon, including what made him the way he is (read: not like you and me), how he deals with anger and what saved him when he was close to dying. He also dropped a ton of his pop cultural expertise, including bits on Sebastian Bach, Sharon Stone on Arsenio Hall, and his relationship with Snoop Dogg.

Anyhow, thanks for listening to this wee project of mine for the last few years. It’s been super fun, though I certainly lost my drive about a year and a half in. Producing takes a lot of time and energy and my passion kind of just fizzled out. (Though my love for podcasts and the art of radio will live on. There’s a potential new project in the works, relating to science and storytelling.)

Big, huge thanks to…

Aaron Beckum, for producing the music for the first eight episodes. (Now he works with way cooler people than you do.)

♥Amber and Josh of Lightening Dust and Jagjawuar for letting me use the song “Wind Me Up” in the intro and extro.

♥Everyone who shared their stories with me.

♥Ashley Webber, Chris Smith, Louise Burns, Bogus Tokus for letting me use their music. You should listen to it. It’s real good.

♥Bob from Vancouver is Awesome for putting up a couple of episodes.

AND…of course, ♥♥♥y’all♥♥♥ for listening! (Hearts.) It’s seriously meant the world to me.

And now, at the tender (and lethal) age of 27, we are done! Thanks again.

Time to post photos!

Click here to read I’m a Good Story and click here to listen to the People’s Program Project.

I’ve done a bunch of work today and I should be doing some more but I just don’t have it in me.  So I’ll be posting to my blog, thank you very much.

It’s been really nice being back in Vancouver. I was so surprised by how many people were happy to see me. Nice to be missed. Now I’m trying to figure out how I can be based in two places, and where those two places will be. Vancouver is one, for sure. Not too sure where the other will be. Suggestions?

In terms of stuff I’m working on/have worked on…I wrote this for CP, which is about a fun/nerdy event happening this weekend. I’m working on a project with Chris Jacot, which we hope to air for the last ever episode of the People’s Program Project. What, you’re thinking. That’s still around? Well, technically it is but since it’s so infrequent I decided to try and put out one last podcast and call it a day (well, two years and 27 episodes.) I’ve lost the passion and drive for that particular podcast, but I still plan on putting out some other podcast-related stuff in the (hopefully) near future. I’ll keep y’all posted on when the last episode of P3 goes up, and I’ll be sure to excessively promote the other podcast I’ve slowly been working on.

If my writing is currently any indication, I’m very tired. So here are some photos.

Ayma had a party for Kate-Lynn. I spent a good chunk of the night having a heart to heart with Ayma, while she wore that ridiculous hat.

Speaking of ridiculous hats.

This was a good day.

Lisa Joyce having a hard time deciding if she’s having fun or not.

This was a good day too. We felt like we were in a cock fighting ring , or were five-years-old, while we looked up to order.

The other day I was thinking about someone I want to have the ol’ in and out with, and I looked up and saw this. Sign?!?!?!?!

This isn’t the first photo of Miranda and I taken in front of cool wallpaper.

And despite being a former model who doesn’t like haven’t his photo taken, here’s one of one of my all time favourite people, looking quite photogenic.

Episode 26

Click here to listen to Episode 26 of the People’s Program Project. Click here to check out I’m a Good Story.

I am totally not regular with my podcasts, hey? I’m so sorry about that…I wish I could devote more time to it but it’s hard when life gets in the way. I certainly do what I can. Anyhow, this episode is pretty funny. First, there’s an interview with my friend Adam Gollner, who’s probably the most successful writer person I know. He writes about food for a living and he’s published a book called The Fruit Hunters. Now he’s working on a book about people who want to live forever. It’s inspiring being around him because he lives a fascinating life. And gets paid to write about it.

The second story is a chat I had with an anonymous friend who thinks the UFC is all about being gay. I want to stress that there’s some explicit language and imagery so please don’t come crying to me if you’re offended. You’ve been warned!

What else? Oh, I’m sure you’ve seen this video…

EVIL BOY (official) from Die Antwoord on Vimeo.

Did you know that it’s about the decision to oppose questionable circumcision practices? I think that’s what takes it to the next level. I got to see them last night in Vancouver and it was a treat. Except for the ravefrat crowd and the two hours of ravefrat dj opening act we had to sit through, it was a treat. High energy and boy, oh boy does Yolandi have some sweet boobies. Hard to miss.

Oh, my friends from back in the day put out this funny video. Is it viral yet? It should be. Those guys are some of the funniest cats I know.

Actually, speaking of funny cats, this is old news on the Internet, but my dear friends Dave and Abby (or Dabby) are engaged. You should join their Tumblr accounts to celebrate.

Episode 25

Click here listen to episode 25 of the People’s Program Project. Click here to read the latest installment of I’m a Good Story.

Phew. It’s taken a while to put that one podcast together. But it’s worth the wait. On this episode we have two stories. The first one is about one friend’s encounter with her loud amorous neighbours and their pesky equally loud pet. It got me thinking about what the etiquette is for dealing with loud neighbour sex. I had a year of dealing with that shit, which inspired this story, but I chose to move out, rather than face the problem directly. It was the worst. Have you had to deal with loud neighbour sex? If so, let me know how.

The second story is a chat I did with notorious Vancouver street artist, Devitt Brown, aka the Dark. I originally interviewed him for Dazed and Confused but we got off topic and started talking about the time he got arrested…and how he wasn’t sorry for what he did.

Anyhow, enjoy! I plan on taking my Edirol on all my trips in the next month so hopefully I’ll collect some good stories from my adventures.

PS That house was once lived in by my friend Zoe Verkuylen, then it burnt down and turned into an art project. I have spent a lot of time inside that art project, watching America’s Next Top Model.

Episode 22 – Rain City Chronicles Experience II, Part 1

Click here to listen to Episode 22 of the People’s Program Project.

Yah! The second installment of Rain City Chronicles was a huge success! It was so packed that we had to turn about 25 people away. Wow. Luckily,   I recorded it as part of my podcast so you can live the magic. The second installment should be out next week.

On this episode we hear stories all about luck, including…

An introduction to luck, by philosopher Charles Macurdy…

A story by Vancouver is Awesome’s Bob Kronbauer about how he got away with a heated situation…

A tale by Nadiya Chettiar about the time she almost ruined a play…

Charlie Demers talks about how he’s lucky in love and a left-wing cult…

Marsha Lederman and the story of the lucky gold watch…

And Rebecca Slaven, accompanied by Andre of The Obvious Peaks and Valleys, told us about her lucky best friend.

It was a really special night and we want to thank everyone who made it out and showed their love. We certainly felt it!
