Trying, Trying Times

Sooooooo. It’s been quite the time.

The past few weeks have been mighty intense times. Dramatic statement? Yeah, probably. Not sure how else to put it. Man of war. I’m just coming out of a whirlwind of events and am just about to wrap my head around all of it but I can almost promise it will be written about eventually. Lots of ups and downs. Mostly ups.

So I’m just going to post pretty pics…

What I strive to be, all the time, everyday.

Went to Gabriola to hang out with Abby, Grampa and my dog on the beach.

Have you been to Gabriola? It’s really special.

Swamp heart pond.

It’s hard to take a bad photo of Abby.

I got a new camera and did a whole series with arbutus. I really love them. Probably ’cause I have eczema and I can relate.

I have a thing for magic.

Speaking of which, I had the most magical walk with Cesar aka my Filipino saviour.

We came across these girls. Dancing in high heels. Ces was all over it. Magic, right?

It was Ali’s birthday.

We went to the races!

The whole family was there.

It was mighty good times.

Now I’m in Montreal. Hanging with the Boosh.

And these two lovely people. In Jew talk, we’d call them menches. (This was taken no less than an hour ago.)

You know what I absolutely love about Montreal?

Le Metro.

Time for bed.

Come What May

The above photo is dedicated to that fine, young man I met on Friday. That’s about all the effort I’ve got.

Here’s a bunch of photos and attempts of witty commentary of some decent to good times that have been inspiring me lately…

I went to the wiener dog races for the second year in a row…

…with these two fine looking cats…

…wiener, wiener, wiener…

…wiener, wiener, wiener…

…WIENERS!

I hope when I grow up, I turn into this lady.

I spent a lovely afternoon somewhat recently with my two lovely friends and a lovely spread, courtesy of Olivia Mowatt, rad mom extrodinaire.

Did you know that Louise Burns is a major babe? Here’s proof.

Olivia levitated for a bit.

Group shot, which consists of 80% ME!

Ayma and I were in LA……where lots of interesting things happened…

…Matt loves me…can’t you tell?…

…I was trying to make this shot kind of like an upskirt…

Matt threw us a party, that mostly consisted of the Amazing Alphabet People’s Coalition and friends…

…and Nathan (and his roommate Levi, not pictured.)

It turned into a dance party, naturally.

The next night we got to see my friends Wolf Parade perform. I’d never seen them live so it was a real treat. It was the final show of their North American tour.

It had been a long, long time since I was last backstage at a show. How times have changed.

Hi Ayma! Just how big was it?

Speaking of Ayma…I love her. Can’t wait to do more writing. Look out world. Here we come!

I came home to my best friend Chris, who’s staying with me. He leaves me reminders of this fact throughout my apartment.

I think that’s about it. Well, it’s not, my life is waaaay more interesting than a blog entry but that’s all I got for now. I’ll leave you with a video I’m really feeling. I love the story, the costumers, the set design and her boobs.

We’re All Clearly Unstable

To listen to the People’s Program Project, click here.

I have never been busier than I am right now. It’s hard to see how much I’m accomplishing, because I’m so consumed with my work, but I’m sure the payoff will be grand.

Lots going on. I’ve been working all night so I have to make this brief. I’ve included a couple of photos from my birthday roast. It was a really special and fun night. I felt a lot of love. My mum and best friend Chris were both in town for it too, making it extra special. My brain is currently fried. I need sleep. I will keep you posted when things are actually happening. The podcast will have to wait for a while as there’s simply too much on my plate, but I certainly miss it.

By the way, I get a lot of traffic from people looking for the Peoples Program. (I highly recommend you watch the video on that link. I think it speaks pretty clearly.) I have nothing to do with the Peoples Program, which, btw, appears to be incredibly dodgy. But for those of you who stumble across my website looking for said “program,” I really wish you all the best. Please, think clearly.

The Master

So my dear friend Matthew Finlason came over last night and did what he does best: Rearranged things in a way that looks nice, while making me feel better about myself…eventually. He’s fucking ruthless and makes you feel like a piece of shit during the whole process but it’s all for the greater good. As a sceptical journalist type, I question everything he does, especially since I know he makes it up as he goes along. He Twitted about the whole process:

@noneandonly lives like a pig refusing ever to evolve her stale attitudes that manifest themselves in stagnant decor and ignorant energy

@noneandonly to her credit she does allow me to manipulate object to increase the perception of space but not without a fight. She’s single

@noneandonly is learning that a woman’s clean space and cookies will keep a man because a tight little body only gets him home from the bar

You get the picture.

Anyhow, my place is coming together slowly. I hate living in disarray. Here’s some of my favourite parts of my new apartment:

He decided to put my most adorable Red Bean photo above my bed. Something about inspiring harmony and companionship. Or something. I love that print. It was taken by the very talented and posi-core Toby Bannister during an adventure in Japan.

I really like what he did here. He took my ex-boyfriend’s skateboard and made it into a shelf. You can’t see but one of those books is the Kama Sutra. I used to have it on my coffee table, which weirded people out. Boys picked it up more often then girls did. It really wasn’t for shock value…I just really like the binding. When it becomes winter and I need to use this heater, I’ll have to put up an actual shelf.

This used to be the central piece in my old place. I love it but now I find it a bit sad, especially since there’s some heavy history behind it. Sonja Ahlers painted it. I think it works here. I think. Still getting used to it.

Not loving where the Neko Case poster is…it needs to be lowered. I spent a lot of time making a wall of pictures, with all my animal pictures and paintings, above my couch but Matt didn’t like it. I guess it’s a work in progress.

One of my most prized possession is my pink elephant lamp. Matt moved it into my kitchen, which was a pretty empty, boring space before. I guess I can dig it.

What does this have to do with the People’s Program Project? Not much. Well, actually, Matthew is featured in one of my podcast episodes. Can you guess which one?

I guess this is starting to merge into a personal blog, which I was struggling with but now I think I’m okay with.

Well, I’ll tease future episodes: a story about trying to explain an embarrassing ailment to a pharmacist in a foreign land, a chat with the very popular man-about-town and host of Talent Time Paul Anthony, maybe something from Bronx Cheer (if I have the courage to re listen to an interview I did with them for Vice that went horribly wrong. One of my personal worst experiences interviewing ever. Nothing to do with them though…they’re very lovely and talented boys), a collab with Jeff Hamada from BOOOOOOOM and an interview and new material from songstress extrodinare, Lisa Joyce Parry.
