Good Vibe Island

Click here to read I’m a Good Story and click here to listen to the People’s Program Project.

Hiya. I’ll start this with a few links to some of my work that’s been out there in the webesphere. Here’s a piece I did on teen photographer Petra Collins that got picked up all over the place. (Hot young girls with talent generate interest. Not surprised. Also, helps to have ArtStars in there. And Tavi.) Here’s a piece I did on Jenni Lee Nelson and her fantastic vintage store in the Downtown Eastside. Here’s a piece I did on Deandra, the lady I owe for having magnificent hair, and her new salon and her inspiring everything. Also, if this gets something like 300 more hits, I make an extra 50 buck. So please click! Then I can subscribe to a magazine or something.

So there’s that. I have a bunch of photos to share. This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend Dave and Abby’s wedding on Gabriola Island, one of my favourite places in the world. (Note: I originally wrote “Galiano” because for some reason I ALWAYS mix the two up, despite the fact that Gabriola is my favorite place in the world and I had just spent five hours writing about it yesterday. I’m a dumb-dumb. Freudian geographical slip or something.)

Snack buffet and travel companion, Larry David.

The view from the cabin I stayed at. The day I went over, an armed and dangerous man was on the loose on the island after a woman was murdered. (No joke.) I was kinda scared of the idea of staying in the cabin in the middle of the woods, alone. But it was all right. Marvelous, in fact.

There were some cliff formations on the property so I went out and took moody pictures.

This represents my pretty, feminine mood.

Later that night, after I spent the day doing interviews for a story I’m writing, I went over to Nanaimo to pick up some comedians and friends.

They were likely laughing about the creepiest kid alive, who was also on the ferry.

The night before the wedding. Alicia and Graham gave Dabby bread slippers. If you listen to Dave’s podcast (and you probably do) you’ll know the joke.

Me, clownface and the bread slippers.

The next day a bunch of us went to the Malaspina Galleries, which was one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in recent times. The above photos weren’t them.

This was them. Holy smoly.

Then the fellas started jumping into the water, all carefree styles.

I didn’t jump. I chose to slip in.

Almost wedding time. This is the part where everyone takes advantage of how pretty and handsome they look and takes pictures of everyone else. I think Alicia stole the show, after the bride, of course.

Is it getting warm or what? Myself with some handsome fellas.

Then the stunning ceremony, which included but wasn’t limited to adorable flower girls in handmade dresses, a cry-worthy poem and quote about love, a butterfly AND an eagle. Not to mention the absolutely knock-out bride. I had a sneak peak at the shoes and dress design but Abby just blew my mind with how she pulled it off. Every detail of that outfit blew my brain right out of my head.

I was lucky to clock some Grampa time. He’s my #1 (a). [Dutchie is my #1 (b).]

WE HAVE ALLERGIES!

More stunningness.

Dan and I pretending we have chemistry.

The next day when I came home my beautiful neighbour was having a girl’s bbq croquet party in my backyard and happened to have invited every single hot girl in this city. Too bad you weren’t invited.

Then I went to another bbq and this anime character was there.

And these two fantastic staple friends.

Oh, did you know my mum’s been in town and it’s been absolutely divine?

Episode 26

Click here to listen to Episode 26 of the People’s Program Project. Click here to check out I’m a Good Story.

I am totally not regular with my podcasts, hey? I’m so sorry about that…I wish I could devote more time to it but it’s hard when life gets in the way. I certainly do what I can. Anyhow, this episode is pretty funny. First, there’s an interview with my friend Adam Gollner, who’s probably the most successful writer person I know. He writes about food for a living and he’s published a book called The Fruit Hunters. Now he’s working on a book about people who want to live forever. It’s inspiring being around him because he lives a fascinating life. And gets paid to write about it.

The second story is a chat I had with an anonymous friend who thinks the UFC is all about being gay. I want to stress that there’s some explicit language and imagery so please don’t come crying to me if you’re offended. You’ve been warned!

What else? Oh, I’m sure you’ve seen this video…

EVIL BOY (official) from Die Antwoord on Vimeo.

Did you know that it’s about the decision to oppose questionable circumcision practices? I think that’s what takes it to the next level. I got to see them last night in Vancouver and it was a treat. Except for the ravefrat crowd and the two hours of ravefrat dj opening act we had to sit through, it was a treat. High energy and boy, oh boy does Yolandi have some sweet boobies. Hard to miss.

Oh, my friends from back in the day put out this funny video. Is it viral yet? It should be. Those guys are some of the funniest cats I know.

Actually, speaking of funny cats, this is old news on the Internet, but my dear friends Dave and Abby (or Dabby) are engaged. You should join their Tumblr accounts to celebrate.

Good News and Bad News

So, I’ll start with the bad news first. Are you sitting? The Starbucks on the Northeast corner of Thurlow and Robson, across from the Starbucks on the Southwest corner of Thurlow and Robson, is closing down. That Starbucks inspired this scene from my favourite movie:

Take a minute and try to compose yourself. You ok? Good. Well, have a got some great news for you. My friends Dave and Graham, of my favourite podcast, Stop Podcasting Yourself, have been added to the podcasts on MaximumFun.org. This means they’ll be getting a wider audience, which is great because everyone should be listening to them. Oh how they make me laugh, how they make me laugh. So yah for that! I’m so happy for them.

Point Break

A few announcements.

First off, I did a really interesting interview with Nathan Fielder. You might recognize him from the times you went to your parents house and they were watching This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Well, he’s in LA now, where he was hired to write for Important Things with Demetri Martin. I’m going to work on editing in the next few days and hope to have something out soon-ish.

Other upcoming episodes include the lovely and talented Lisa Joyce, Paul Anthony and Andy Dixon, who turns 30 tomorrow.

Also, my arm candy is co-hosting a show tomorrow (August 25) at the Biltmore. It’s called Arrogance and it’s co-hosted by Dave Shumka of Stop Podcasting Yourself (of which I’m a big fan.) It pits improvisers against comedians in the ultimate showdown. Here’s the flyer.

Finally, Lightning Dust has a new album out. They’re the beautiful little band who let me use their song “Wind Me Up” as the theme for my podcast. Anyhow, their new album is called Infinite Light and it’s delightful. They’re playing the Biltmore on Thursday here in Vancouver so be sure to come down if you’re in town.

Let Yourself Go

So I don’t have a podcast ready yet but I have another one you could listen to in the meantime. I shared a story at Stop Podcasting Yourself Live the other night. Click here to listen. It was such a great show. Graham and Dave are such marvels and Charlie Demers‘ quick wit is really something else. I can’t say enough good things about these guys. If you don’t subscribe to them already, get on it. Top notch comedy.

My outfit that night was inspired by this commercial:

I’ve been feeling nostalgic. I didn’t quite pull it off like Cindy did. However, it made me realize that in my old age, I’m getting less and less conservative.

A few announcements. My good friend Les Ramsay is having an art show, put on by Life Collective: I’m pretty sure this guy will be huge so check him out before he explodes.

Also, I am really busy right now. I hope to have a podcast episode by this week, for reals. Thanks for everyone who cares enough to check in. It means the world to me.

PS I really love my friends. I hope they know that.
