Inspiration (Bored.)
So my writing partner/dear friend Ayma went to Mexico recently and brought me back the above: a rape whistle shaped like Jesus on the cross. On the back it says “Protect Us.” It’s a fitting gift since her and I are in a sketch comedy thingamado called Rape Whistle Fan Club.
Things have been busy as usual and it’ll probably stay that way until eternity. I’m in the middle of organizing two work-related trips. One involves a roadtrip, the other, total seclusion. Looking forward to them both.
I wrote this for the Canadian Press. I’d like to hear your first-time pet experiences. Apparently, depression isn’t that uncommon for first time pet owners. Things with the Dutchmeister and I are moving along swimmingly…she’s without a doubt, my animal soul mate. She is everything I could have hoped for in a dog. Except she’s totally obsessed with me. We’re working on making her a little more open to other people. Tips?
Going to get ready for Dine Out Vancouver’s media preview. I’ve been starving myself all day so I’m hungry and excited. I hope I pace myself because I do tend to stuff my face with little caution…I’ve been looking forward to this all month.

RWFC’s first shoot
Here’s a photo of Rape Whistle Fan Club’s first shoot starring Cam MacCleod of Manhussy, Ryan Steele the Ryan Steele Show and Dutchie the doggy. Shot by Kar Harvey and styled by Daughters of Dawn. For those of you who don’t know, RWFC is a sketch thingy started by my writing partner Ayma Letang (far right) and myself. Today was fantastic…oh how we laughed. The video should be done in a month or so. I’ll keep y’all posted!

Episode 20 – The Rape Whistle Fan Club Experience!
Click here and or here to listen to Episode 20 of the People’s Program Project.
Ayma and Elly here. We decided to trepidatiously launch our new project, which might be sketch comedy related. Comedy. What a word.
It’s called Rape Whistle Fan Club and it’s basically us doing a variety of stuff that makes us laugh and hopefully you too.
On this episode we debut the Scat Explosion, a talk show entirely inspired by Randy Bachman’s CBC program Vinyl Tap. (Please click on that link. It’s amazing.)
Thanks to our rowdy but enthusiastic studio audience, Karen Pinchin, Ben Frey and Cam MacLeod.
We’re hoping to get on a bill for our live performance debut some time soon. We’ll keep you posted via the Facebook fan page we’ll inevitably create and force our friends to join.

Episode 15 – The Nathan Fielder Experience
To listen to episode 15, click here.
When I was in university, I wanted to write for television. I imagined being the next David E. Kelly. I had this idea to create a series about ordinary people, like Sri Lankan dishwashers and gawky substitute teachers. Unfortunately UVic’s writing program didn’t focus on that style of writing so I gave up on that dream. (I write the news for City TV on occassion, but it’s totally different.) So it was real neat to meet Nathan Fielder. The Vancouver-born comedian has been writing for TV since he was 23. (He’s now 26.) He currently lives in LA where he writes for Important Things with Demetri Martin.
I also share an anecdote about a weird chain of restaurants here and their unavoidable hostesses.
I had some technical problems with my audio, which is why my intro sounds like I’m in an echo chamber but I kind of like it.
Also on this episode, I got my writing partner Ayma Letang to sit in and help me find my voice. Here’s a picture of her and her beautiful cheekbones.
Next episode will be devoted entirely to Paul Anthony, everyone’s favourite man about town. Until then, check back here for news. There’s some coming on the way. And check out the Links to Click section, cause they are all worth clicking. Today I added my dear friend Sarah Steinberg’s blog, which is one of my most favourite blogs ever. She’s real funny and smart and stylish.
