Episode 26

Click here to listen to Episode 26 of the People’s Program Project. Click here to check out I’m a Good Story.

I am totally not regular with my podcasts, hey? I’m so sorry about that…I wish I could devote more time to it but it’s hard when life gets in the way. I certainly do what I can. Anyhow, this episode is pretty funny. First, there’s an interview with my friend Adam Gollner, who’s probably the most successful writer person I know. He writes about food for a living and he’s published a book called The Fruit Hunters. Now he’s working on a book about people who want to live forever. It’s inspiring being around him because he lives a fascinating life. And gets paid to write about it.

The second story is a chat I had with an anonymous friend who thinks the UFC is all about being gay. I want to stress that there’s some explicit language and imagery so please don’t come crying to me if you’re offended. You’ve been warned!

What else? Oh, I’m sure you’ve seen this video…

EVIL BOY (official) from Die Antwoord on Vimeo.

Did you know that it’s about the decision to oppose questionable circumcision practices? I think that’s what takes it to the next level. I got to see them last night in Vancouver and it was a treat. Except for the ravefrat crowd and the two hours of ravefrat dj opening act we had to sit through, it was a treat. High energy and boy, oh boy does Yolandi have some sweet boobies. Hard to miss.

Oh, my friends from back in the day put out this funny video. Is it viral yet? It should be. Those guys are some of the funniest cats I know.

Actually, speaking of funny cats, this is old news on the Internet, but my dear friends Dave and Abby (or Dabby) are engaged. You should join their Tumblr accounts to celebrate.

I’m glad I spent it with you

Click here to check out the latest column of I’m a Good Story. Click here to listen to whatever episode of the People’s Program Project.

It was my birthday weekend. I turned Thirty-Fun! So far, the age is living up to the name. Here’s why…

Friday, Katie took me to this Japanese tapas place that sells these sticky rice grilled things that she describes as having the texture of “hot garbage bags” but are so yummy. The desserts aren’t so bad either.

The next morning, my best friend Ronit flew all the way across the country to spend my birthday weekend with me. Talk about love. We went and had breaky with Katie (lucky me, two days in a row) and Miranda, my westcoast besties.

Then we rushed down to see Les’ show while it was still up.

Talk about a serious sweater.

In the evening, I went to Jojo’s annual Thanksgiving party. I met a beautiful woman who I’d like to dub “The Spirit of Elly’s future” as oppose to the ghost…she was the coolest.

The next day was spent meandering, hanging and eating.

Today I spent some time with my two favourite Commonwealthers…

Interesting times at the moment. But I make it so, so there.

First!

Click here to read the latest entry of I’m a Good Story. Another episode of the People’s Program Project will be up any day now. Promise.

So I haven’t been in much of a chatty or social mood. I guess it comes with settling into the world of  straight edge-dom. I’m still in that phase where life is boring/annoying/depressing a good portion of the time. But it’ll pass and get a lot better from here. At least I have this creature to bring me oodles of warm, good feelings:

Oh, and Chris was here. We spent a perfect day together, which involved doing a lot of this…

He has a bad back and apparently this helps.

What else?I went to the Chinese Golden Plate something something awards. It was pretty good. No complaints when it comes to a nine course meal. And Chinese is my absolute favourite. However, they gave us swag bags that had these packets of powered tea that I drank today totally out of curiosity. It only took a few sips to make me realize it’s not my thing. Then I got vertigo and vomited and spent the rest of the day on the couch, not feeling well at all.

Oh and I got a haircut.

Other than that, doing a bunch of different types of writing. Lots of hustling. Hard working. Dog walking. Friend hanging. Depression suppressing. And, get this, meditating. I swear it helps.

My birthday approaches. Any ideas for low-key fun times?

Not much

Yeah, it’s been pretty uneventful lately. Here’s a picture from the night market.

Oh, and here’s one of Dutchie’s first ride on public transit. She hated it.

Glucose Prozac

I bought this package  of candy in Montreal because it made me happy. Translated from French, it means “Little Smile” or “Hint of a Smile” and I vowed to crack it open when I feel super down. I’m curious if anyone out there in the world of interwebbing has an emergency dosage of happy they keep at arm’s length.
