What makes you emo?

I love being busy. I much prefer it to not having anything on the go. Not having anything on the go makes me question myself too much…because that’s all I do.
Last week Hilary Henegar and I went to the opening of SweaterLodge at the MOV. They obviously didn’t have a budget for canapes. (WHAT? I’m a part-time foodie. I’m allowed to judge.) We still had an amazing time.

Us being arty in front of a giant polarfleece sweater.
It’s such an ambitious idea. It takes a while to get over how bizarre it is but I love what the MOV is doing. It integrates community, which is what they’re all about. Keep doing your thing MOV. You’re certainly doing something right.
And keep giving us free drink tickets at all your openings.
Having a giant poster of Miles outside your store is a pretty good idea. Shhhh.
Tourism Vancouver hired me to write about this Secret Soiree event put on by Swallowtail and it was so much fun. Best of all was that Sarah was the bartender! And the wine was soooooo yummy. (Shit. Trying to avoid that word as a food writer. I’ll only use it if I’m talking to four-year-olds.)
I woke this guy up. He was a bit grouchy but wasn’t too bummed.
The gift shop at one of the places we visited was kind of dated.
And now for some videos.
My friend Scott Smith’s newest project, Skins, is airing tonight on MTV in the US and Movie Network in Canada. I’m just using this as an excuse to post that video he did of me and my buds a few years ago. (I had my hair and makeup done by a professional that night and was happy Scott was around to capture that. He’s talented.)
Also, my friend Louise Burns has a new video. And it’s so good! And I’m not just saying that!
(Wish I could figure out how to embed. Just click on the link, will ya?)
Louise Burns – What Do You Wanna Do? from Light Organ Records on Vimeo.
This video made me wonder who I’d want to go down in a plane with…
I think it would be Chris Jacot, for whom I am a muse. Lucky me to inspire such a talented mind. (He previewed something to me today that he’s working on and it got me really excited.)
Today is my one year anniversary of being a dog owner but I’m too tired of blogging to post a cute picture. Ok…I will. Oh, did you know that I started a blog for her too? I’m that girl.
Happy technically the saddest day of the year, y’all. Tell me about one good thing that happened…it would make me happy!

Happy new year, six days in. How’s everyone feeling? I’m feeling pretty sluggish to be honest, but it’s probably ’cause I’ve eaten a total of four piece of bread so far today.
Not much to report. The rest of my holidays were great.
Hung out with some girls and talked about the ethics of science.

Dutchie had a play day with her Internet sensation boytoy, Grampa. (Scroll down to #21)
Had a casual cuddle party with Miranda and Jeets.
Spent New Years with Lisa Joyce, who’s totally crazier than me but likes to debate otherwise. (We’re about even.)
She’s certainly more photogenic than I’ll ever be.
We went to check out Laugh Gallery, which proved to be just the kind of New Years party I wanted to attend. Laid back, good vibes in a venue that reminded me of an elementary school assembly.
A highlight of the night was watching one of my favourite comedians, Phil Hanley, perform. Always a treat.
Lucky for you, you get to relive the magic.
What else? Oh, got to take care of Dutchie’s elegant yet breathing-challenged sugardaddy, Jackson.

I got to say…Christmas is my new favourite holiday. My relationship with it goes back a while and it always keeps changing. While I was a real journalist, it was a time known as the triple time and a half holiday, ’cause that’s generally what I’d be making as a Jew working on Christmas. It was great, but not in the spending time with people you love kind of way.
That’s what yesterday was for me. My friends who felt sorry that I was alone with my dog on this sacred day, all invited me over. Four events in one day! I hadn’t felt that popular since…hmmmm…never. I’ve never felt that popular.
It started out at Chris and Lizzie’s.
Lucy (not Ball) is in town. She lives in Portland. She’s an actress.
Chris and Lizzie’s brother Bobby were trying to convince me that Black Adder is the greatest British comedy series ever to be created. Lizzie and Lucy disagreed. (They’re all from the UK btw.) I said I’d be the judge. I got lost and distracted within two minutes.
After that, I took my dog to Katie’s, who was celebrating Xmas and birthday times with her family. It was a short but delicious visit. (No photos.)
Next was Jo’s, for the craftiest Xmas in town.
I’ve spent the last three years here. It’s divine.
Mika was lucky, but didn’t win.
I started getting into it once I had my cheer leading squad with me.
Next, it was off to Deandra’s for the skidliest Christmas in town.
Duncan doing the marshmallow face.
Lisa tells it to me straight. I wouldn’t expect anything less.
I used to think people who made out with dogs were gross but now I get it.
Aw. This totally summarizes how I felt yesterday. Today, not so much. What’d you end up doing?

This time of year, people with real jobs generally take time off, so that people without real jobs (me) feel all unsettled because they don’t know if they should still keep working or if they should feel like they’ve earned this time off too. No one’s going to be answering their calls anyhow. It’s weird like that. Whatever, I’ll still use it as an opportunity to chill out, regardless of the fact that I’ll still feel unsettled about doing so. Does any of that make sense?
It’s totally the season for being social. Mostly. Here are some pictures of stuff…
Dutchie is now a therapy dog. Though it’s taking a long time to get this thing started…CANNOT WAIT!
Leah the latkas maker. Without her, I would never have been able to properly celebrate Hannuka, or however you spell it.
Sometimes (all the time) my dog does cute things like hide under the couch and peak out just to check and make sure I’m doing alright.
She’ll reach out her paw to me and be like, “It’s ok. Things are gonna be fine.”
I was invited to this super lovely dinner at the art gallery in an old courtroom upstairs. The chef of the meal was such a superstar. Really nice night.
Randy and I checked out Science World, or Telus World of Science rather, which we soon realized was a backdrop paradise…
