Heavy Medley

This week has been a bit hectic, since my getaway trip to Seattle made me behind by a day or so. But it was well worth it. I’m writing it up as a travel piece but I’ll share some photos in the meantime…
Mir was my partner in crime for half the time. We’re a pretty great team. She called it the honeymoon she never had.
We went to the Experience Music Project, but solely to check out the sci-fi museum. Turns out it’s closed, except for one random exhibit about Battlestarship Galactica, which I’ve never watched.
We still had so much fun. Particularly in the gift shop.
Then we booted it to Theo’s chocolate factory, where we got a tour that involved lots of samples. It smelt really good in there. Just like a chocolate factory should smell, I suppose.
Then we checked in to our hotel, Hotel 1000. Top notch stuff. I’ve recommended it to several people thus far, quite sincerely. Our room and its view was kind of like a dream come true. No complaints.
I’d never experienced the Moodz channel, but let me tell you…it’s good stuff.
Mir and I got all tarted up and hit the town. We were in bed by 12:30, I think.
The next day I did a lot of this, ’cause to me, this is perfection. Big bed, tv, computer and stunning view. Also, I had the best massage of my life, courtesy of Jo at Spaaah. Hot stone. I was on some level that was somewhere between sleep and half consciousness. I think it’s called bliss.
Mr. Todd Barry was also in town, doing a show at the Showbox. I got to see him perform, lucky me.
The next day I did a bunch of solo wandering. Went to the Smith Tower, and got to explore the Chinese Room, which has a panoramic view of the city. It was so very special. There’s this chair in there that if you sit in it, and you’re single, and a lady, you’ll be married within a year. I’m not going to reveal if I did or not…
When I came out, it was pouring so I ducked into this guy’s little indie gallery. His medium was quilts. His muse appeared to be himself.
Then I killed some time at the public library. Microsoft has something to do with it and thus there is money behind it and thus it is a truly stunning building.
Good trip. Great trip, in fact. Sweet little getaway, for sure. My piece is due on Friday so I’ll be sure to post it when it’s done.
Oh. I’ve added an audio section to my portfolio page, so if you wanted to hear that DNTO piece from a few weeks ago, give it a click and have a listen. Scroll down to audio.
That’s about it. Keeping busy working on some exciting projects. More to come, eventually. Vague and annoying, I know. That’s how I do it (but only when I want to be vague and annoying.)

Apparently I’m a lot more fun since I started drinking. Here are some photos from lately.
These two are fun, aren’t they? The one on the right gave me one of the best compliments I’ve ever received. (He’s a very talented drummer and he complimented my rhythm during a Christmas party jam session years ago when I was playing shakers.)
I went to a punk show. This guy was really compelling.
Katie is so beautiful, I can’t not take photos of her.
I got to see Louise play a show. It was so very fun.
Hung out with Nardwuar. Doot doot.
Now I’m in Seattle. Having the most amazing time.
Home tomorrow. It’s been a nice getaway, no doubt. More to come soon.

Just a reminder that today on CBC’s Definitely Not the Opera, I’m going to be telling a story about the time I showed up to school wearing what I’m wearing in the above photo. It’s the rule breaker episode. I believe my story is on last, which will be around 3:45 pm or 3:50 pm local time. Listen online if you’re not in a country that has CBC. LISTEN! They said they’ll give me the audio once it’s all done, so when I have my hands on it, I’ll try to post it to my website.
I must say. It was really nice to be back in a studio.
Good look, right?
I forgot to mention this article I wrote about Maximum Fun and Stop Podcasting Yourself. I’ve been busy writing lately. Phew.
Last night was my last “assignment” for Tourism Vancouver. (In quotes because it really doesn’t feel like work.) It was an event called Eat 1 Act 1, where you go out for dinner and then see a Push Festival play. I’m gonna write all about it for their blog.
Tristan was my guest.
He’s really fun to stare at hang out with.
It was the first time I’d been to the Irish Heather’s new location. It was decently tasty. Afterwords, I went to see Bonanza. I went in with zero expectations but was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t like anything like I’d seen before, which is a good thing for theater.
My friend Dante was in town for his 30th so I swung by there after but didn’t get any pictures. Can’t believe I’ve known him for 10 years! He’s top shelf.
This has been one of the busiest weeks of the year, so far, and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. Boring, right?

Real quick

I’m about to go to bed but felt inspired to update my blog. A couple of exciting things are underway.
First, I’m gonna be on Definitely Not the Opera this weekend. Saturday. Between 2-4. Not sure the exact time. I’ll probably Twitter it when I know. Telling a story about the time I showed up to my Grade 3 picture day in a negligee.
Also, going to start working on a little something that I’m really excited about. But it’s too early to get into specifics. But I’ll say that it’s really exciting and I’m really excited. EXCITED!
Here are some pictures of lately…
It snowed the other day. I wish I had one of these. As in, a person to pull me around.
I went to this Sustainable Pairing thingy at the Aquarium last week. So much good wine and some decent food. I just loved being there at night. At one point I ducked out and hung with the dolphins…
Also, spent a little time with Lizzie’s belly.
Anyhow, check back here when you can and I’ll eventually reveal what’s going down. It’s a little too early to go into it, but I’m really excited. Did I mention that already?
